Responsibilities

This position will supervise the work of the Project Accountants, and perform and manage the accounting work for his/her assigned division and projects.  This position will serve as management as well as backup support for the accounting transactions related to the divisions and projects, and provide financial support for division Directors.  The position requires strong management, accounting and analytical skills, as well as a compliance mindset. 

 

General Accounting Responsibilities – In coordination with the Controller, manage the following responsibilities for all projects:

 

  1. Supervise client billings in CostPoint. Work closely and coordinate with Project Managers on items and amount to bill, unbilled revenue, and invoice revisions.
  2. Supervise and coordinate with Assistant Controller in Accounts Payable process for subcontractor and other major vendor invoices related to assigned projects. Process in BIRT and CostPoint; verify project numbers, account numbers, supporting documentation, and approvals.
  3. Coordinate monthly close and post-closing activities.
  4. Review and provide guidance for set up and communication of new projects in CostPoint. Verify all required project information is available and follow up on missing information.
  5. Supervise updates of CostPoint with any contract/client/project modifications. Review data in contract backlog report and collaborate with Contracts staff on updates.
  6. Assist Project Managers and Directors in understanding accounting activities such as billing, unbilled amounts, unpaid invoices, accounting due dates.
  7. Prepare for and help coordinate the year-end closing activities
  8. Prepare for and help coordinate the annual audit activities and respond to requests for explanation of transactions and accounting treatments; production of documents and other related information.
  9. Develop key compliance monitoring training, and other training areas related to projects.
  10. Assist with other general accounting related responsibilities as assigned.

 

Advisor Responsibilities - Assist the Controller in accomplishing the following:

  1. Review solicitations and contracts to advise Directors and Project Managers of financial obligations and potential risks.
  2. Analyze revenue, expense, and receivables to forecast potential gains and losses
  3. Provide support to Project Managers and Division Directors with respect to internal control expectations, policies and procedures, accounting treatments, use of financial reports, and any other inquiries
  4. Assist with the consolidation and reconciliation of budgets
  5. Ensure that budgets, and any subsequent revisions, are accurately uploaded and maintained in the systems.
  6. Assist with other accounting advisory responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. BA/BS in Accounting required. CPA desired.
  2. Minimum of 5-10 years experience in financial accounting, preferably in a not-for-profit or government contracting environment.
  3. Understanding of and experience with financial compliance, contracting, and auditing requirements.
  4. Demonstrated ability to use large scale automated accounting systems, knowledge of CostPoint a plus.
  5. Direct experience in performing and reviewing project and account balance reconciliations as well as preparing and reviewing ledger entries, adjustments and accruals.
  6. Experience in preparing materials for and responding to end-of-year audits.
  7. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  8. Experience in preparing and/or reviewing financial statements, including variance analysis, as well as the ability to explain these to persons with little financial acumen.
  9. Ability to work well under pressure, organize and set priorities, meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.

Physical Demands

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee must be mobile in an office environment and able to use standard office equipment and must be able to communicate in verbal and written form.

 

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a typical office environment with exposure to a minimal noise level.
