General Description
The MHU Inspector (Multi-discipline) is responsible for inspecting manufactured housing units for compliance with FEMA Rugged Base Performance Requirements (RBPR) and Federal Standards in a factory-built housing manufacturing environment.  This position requires travel and is a 100% field- based position to conduct field-based inspections activities at manufacturing plants nationwide.


Supervision Received/Exercised

The MHU Inspector (Multi-discipline) receives direction from the Field Operations Supervisor and the Project Manager. The MHU Inspector (Multi-discipline) may, from time-to-time, be asked to take a lead role in providing other services critical to the performance of IBTS contractual obligations such as inspections, research, or similar technical services relevant to the field inspector’s education, background, and experience.



Responsibilities and Duties (Duties include but are not limited to):   

  • Performs inspections, conducts periodic reviews, and writes reports of quality assurance program oversight, regulatory compliance monitoring, and construction code compliance inspections duties.
  • Uses the approved designs to ensure MHUs are constructed in conformance with Federal Standards and FEMA requirements, Applies codes, standards, and workmanship to evaluate home compliance.
  • Resolves all disagreements with the manufacturers in an amicable manner.
  • Makes recommendations on corrective and preventive actions and helps devise possible solutions for ensuring compliance.
  • Captures, follows-up and reports on outstanding corrective action activities.
  • Provides peer review of completed inspection reports.
  • Develops and presents internal and external training as required on technical areas, key topics of assignment, procedures/processes, standards, and more.
  • Provides guidance to team members on all procedures, technical issues, travel planning, and communications.


Certifications and Registrations

  • ICC Certified Residential Combination Inspector, strongly  preferred.
  • Experience as a Contractor, Home Building Contractor, or Remodeling Contractor is preferred.

Work Experience

  • 4 to 5 years of Construction experience required and/or 4 to 5 years of experience as a Residential Combination Inspector required.
  • Experience in working as a member of a team, required.
  • Exposure to Government-contracting environment, strongly preferred.
  • Residential construction superintendent, strongly preferred.


Special Skills and Abilities

  • Good writing skills with the ability to compile data and write reports.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for conducting inspections in a constructive, fair, and team-building manner.
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Time management skills for executing the inspections.
  • Dispute resolution skills to amicably and professionally resolve any differences or conflicts.
  • Travel-planning skills to include travel by air/car, hotels, communication, and voucher preparations.
  • Codes, standards, workmanship, and construction methods for housing construction—all trades as applicable for housing.
  • Represents the organization in a professional, ethical, and consistent manner.
  • Strong leadership skills to be recognized as a value-added service provider and ability to build good business relationships.
  • Ability to work as a team player and to work with all levels of staff within an organization.
  • Ability to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision and to successfully complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
