The role of the Field Design Technician is to assist Design Team in facilitating the delivery of Architectural Services to the field.  This person(s) will work in a team to support the needs of the client by visiting job sites, documenting conditions, finding proactive solutions to problems, and working with the AOR or PE to immediately resolve open PAAs and RFIs and mitigate the number of these that are expected.


Essential Functions:


  • Review and document site conditions during construction
  • Note any issues and discrepencies from plans, and coordinate immediate response between the builder and AOR or PE
  • Interpret field conditions and compare to approved drawings, document changes
  • Request specifications, designs, or sketches for buildings and building systems, including, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, landscape, and engineering
  • Participate in technical coordination meetings with builders, subcontractors and project staff.
  • Assist in executing coordination between, design professionals and contractors from issuance of construction drawings to approval of work permits
  • Analyze building codes, by-laws, space and site requirements, and other technical documents and reports to determine their effect on architectural designs.
  • Assist in review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from civil engineers to ensure that they conform to design concepts.
  • Effectively communicate relevant project information to elevations sub-consultants and Elevation team members.
  • Maintain and transmit files and sketches between IBTS and the Architect or Designer of Record.
  • Assist in preparation in detailed drawings of architectural designs and plans for buildings and structures according to specifications provided by architect.
  • Local, NYC travel is required, this is a field position
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities and activities directed by IBTS management as assigned at any time with or without notice.


Job Specification:

  • Identify, determine, and apply best practices in job documentation.
  • Must have knowledge of Building and Construction industry, including and not limited to materials, methods, and the tools involved in the residential construction
  • Communicate effectively to IBTS staff, contractors, homeowners, clients of the New York City Build it Back
  • Foster positive attitude towards IBTS staff, contractors, homeowners, and clients in accordance to New York City Build it Back program.
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write the English language with proficiency.
  • Deliver the required materials and findings accurately in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to understand and apply all of the current program standards, compliance measures, and building code issues within a project
  • Use critical thinking and problem solving to recognize issues as well as identifying quality control in accordance to New York City Build it Back program.
  • Must maintain and OSHA 10 or 30 certification
  • Must maintain all safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to log and account for all time on the provided tools (Deltek)





  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture or any related field; or in lieu of Associates degree in Engineering, Architecture or any related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in construction industry with high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, web based content, and iOS applications
  • Preferred knowledge of the New York City Building Information System (BIS), Department of Transportation, Department of Finance, Oasis Websites and other related agency websites

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain stationary in a stationary position while in the performance of your duties.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Frequently moving stationary materials around the office weighing up to 10 pounds.
