    This position is part of a Disaster Recovery team.   We are not first responders, but when natural disasters strike (e.g.., hurricanes, earthquakes, flood waters, tornados, fires, etc.) our team travels to the disaster area as part of the recovery process to help restore the communities. Our primary focus is working with homeowners in the restoration of their houses and property.


    This position will begin as an “on-call/as-needed” basis, with strong probability of converting to a regular, full-time position with full employee benefits which include (but are not limited to) medical, prescription, dental, vision, FSA, 401k with employer matching, paid holidays, and paid leave.


    We are looking for individuals who are willing, able, and readily available to be a part of this team, who can report for work and travel on short notice to disaster sites and remain engaged in the recovery efforts for varying periods of time. Longer assignments will include rotations for travel back and forth between their home and the disaster sites.


    Position Summary:


    The Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Specialist is responsible for supporting a safe environment for employees, operational compliance with environmental regulations, and fostering a safety culture throughout the organization as well as the projects undertaken by the organization.



    • Ensure implementation of process and procedures to maintain compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations and permits under OSHA, TTB, FRA, EPA and state DENR.
    • Review project operations and employee management of safety through physically walking and observing
    • Develop and implement Project’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP), Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), and Risk Management Plan (RMP).
    • Implements site security plan.
    • Advise management on all HSE matters.
    • Conduct behavior-based audits, train other auditors and monitor program.
    • Periodically review and ensure implementation of HSE protocols; implement new protocols as necessary.
    • Ensure new Project processes, materials, equipment and all relevant matters meets applicable requirements; follow up with maintenance regarding safety work orders and PMs affecting safety and environmental permits.
    • Collaborate with team members to ensure HSE requirements are being addressed.
    • Develop training schedule and provide self-performed training.
    • Maintain training calendar.
    • Conduct training on safety and environmental policies and procedures; facilitate HSE portion of new hire, new contractor & new vendor orientation; maintain training matrices.
    • Complete incident investigations, including post-risk assessment, record-keeping and documentation.
    • Conduct risk assessments and develop corrective actions, including ergonomic assessments.
    • Oversee fire alarm and fire protection system, and insurance-related risk management.
    • Manage purchase requisitions for HSE related materials, equipment, and services.
    • Conduct environmental inspections and audits.
    • Support Management of Waste Program.
    • Support Management of Industrial Hygiene Program.
    • Support Deployment of EHS Management System.
    • Coordinate HAZCOM Program and SDS.
    • Complete and submit regulatory environmental report.
    • Act as Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Action Plan Coordinator.
    • Other responsibilities and projects as specified.


    • High school diploma or GED with exceptional experience record in the related field can be considered; Degree strongly preferred.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience as a safety professional in heavy industrial and/or manufacturing environment.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.


    • EMT and/or First Responder Certification
    • Auditor Certification, is a plus
    • OSHA 30 card, recommended


    • Well-versed in applicable standards: OSHA, IEPA, DOT, NFPA, etc.
    • Experienced in safety regulations and practices.
    • Advanced knowledge of environmental regulations and practices.
    • Ability to coach through others and build cross-functional teams.
    • Exposure to construction industry and construction projects.
    • Understanding of manufacturing facilities and machining processes; familiarity with shop floor.
    • Advanced knowledge of industrial and office ergonomics.
    • Ability to foster and stress the importance of a safety culture.
    • Excellent oral and written language skills.
    • Excellent problem solving and reasoning ability.
    • Ability to follow step-by-step procedures.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and reprioritize based on changing nature of risks.
    • Ability to use gauges and other measurement tools.
    • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
